"A
3.3 Field Investigation
The field drilling portion of the investigation was initiated during January 2008. A total of
three soil borings were drilled at the site. Details of the site assessment investigation are
provided in the following sections.
3.3.1 Geophysical Clearance of Drill Sites
Prior to initiating drilling.operations, a call was made to Underground Service Alert (USA) to
identify member utilities. USA contractors identified the presence of a PG&E gas pipeline and
distribution system adjacent to the property along Shaw Road.. Underground Service Alert did
not enter the property since the site investigative area is about 300 feet from the facility entrance
4
on Shaw Road.
A geophysical survey of an area of approximately 125 by 100 feet was conducted on December
28,,2007 by this office. The:purpose of the investigation was to confirm that all UST's and
associated
h
underground piping had been removed. ST&E personnel could not provide us with a
F
copy of any other underground electrical; natural gas or.water lines in the shop yard area.
Figure 5 (Yellow Line) depicts the approximate extent of the geophysical survey.
l{
A EG&G Geometries G-856AX vertical gradient magnetometer was used to collect ground
magnetic readings on a 5 foot by 5 foot grid over the survey area. A Geonics EM-31DL ground
I
conductivity instrument and data logger was used in conjunction with a Whites Instrument
Metal Detector to clear the individual soil boring sites to be drilled over the yard area of the
f property. No indication of metal related to former UST's or underground facilities were found
to be present in the subsurface. Based on the geophysical surveys, all 'USTs and associated
E
piping arc confirmed to have been removed from the property. All work was conducted under the
supervision and with the oversight of a California Registered Geophysicist.
I'pEnvirunmentu lLS'C&E1RepurEs5U51 U2UU6 10
I i
