Muir (Consultant) and has the following comments.
In the Work Plan your Consultant proposes the installation of three soil borings and the
collection of soil and grab groundwater samples for laboratory analysis. Two borings are
proposed to be located outside of the former underground storage tank (UST) pit location
and will extend to groundwater; one boring will be located in the former UST pit area near
boring B-1 for collection of confirmation soil samples. In the event that obvious petroleum
hydrocarbon contamination is noted in the borings located outside of the former UST area,
these borings will be extended in depth and completed as 2-inch diameter groundwater
monitoring wells. The Consultant also proposes to update the Sensitive Receptor Survey.
Following completion of the fieldwork the Consultant will prepare an updated Site Conceptual
Model and a Problem Assessment Report.
The Consultant proposes to conduct a Geophysical clearance survey to look for any possible
underground structures, and has also proposed to have Underground Service Alert of
Northern California map the site for underground structures. Prior to approving the proposed
Geophysical clearance survey, the Consultant must to provide the justification in writing to
SJCIEHD showing the basis for concern that underground structures exist in the area
previously investigated with soil borings.
SJCIEHD approves the proposed scope of work with the following conditions/changes:
1. One additional boring to groundwater is to be installed northeast of the former
UST pit, near boring B5, to better surround the source area.
2. The three borings surrounding the former UST pit area should all be drilled before
the boring location proposed in the former UST pit area, near boring 131, is drilled.
3. If the groundwater samples collected from the three borings located outside of the
former UST pit area have obvious signs of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination,
these borings may be converted to groundwater monitoring wells.
