Task 3- Site Assessment Subsurface Investigation
A subsurface investigation will be made to evaluate the horizontal and vertical
extent of petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil and to determine if groundwater
beneath the site has been impacted by petroleum hydrocarbon fuel compounds,
Consultant proposes to permit and advance a series of three soil borings at the
site. Soil borings will be drilled at the approximately locations shown on Figure
$. The total number of soil borings and sampling location will be made in
concurrence and/or at the direction of PHSEHD. Prior to conducting any
intrusive methods at the site, Underground Service Alert of Northern California
will be utilized to map out the underground structures. Based on the clearances
obtained, Consultant will site the soil borings in a safe locations.
A licensed drilling contractor will advance the first two soil borings located
outside the former UST pit to approximately 50 feet or more below the ground
surface using a continuous flite auger drilling rig. The objective will be to drill to
at least the first water bearing zone where a groundwater grab sample will be
collected from each soil boring. The third soil boring will be made in the former
UST pit and will be advanced to within five feet of the groundwater surface but
will not drill into the groundwater surface.
The drilling contractor will be an experienced contractor who has worked in this
portion of California successfully on previous projects. Drilling contractor will
arrange for USA callout and will obtain all necessary PHSEHD and necessary
encroachment permits for drilling.
During drilling operations, undisturbed soil samples will be collected at five-foot
intervals into stainless steel or brass sample sleeves. In the field, a California
professional geologist will log all soil samples for hydro geologic and lithologic
M ain)UTnvlronmcnta1115TE\W orkplanlW orkplanl l 192007.wpA 18
