of contamination was measured from the soil sample taken from the northwest wall at 10' , and high levels of BTEX and TPH-G were detected from the soil samples taken from the southeast and south walls, (refer to PLATE9_VI & VII for their locations & amounts of contamination. TMLE II gives more details of the laboratory results; a copy of the lab report and chain-of-custody is included as APPENDIX D. I'lacement„ of soil borings: On January 12, 1993 , a workplan was prepared by WJH for placing five (5) soil borings on the property in an attempt to define the limits of contamination; refer to APPENDIX 19 for a copy of that proposal After receiving approval from the County EHD, work commenced on February 1 , 1993, using an Osterberg & Stewart auger rig under the direction of WJH. Five (5) soil borings were placed at the locations shown on the attached PLATE VAI-- they are identified as SB-1 , SB-2, etc. • Total depths are indicated next to the auger hole symbol Each soil boring was continously cored using wireline operated equip- ment; selected samples were screened with a PID meter, & cores were retained at 5' intervals from 11' bgl to total depth; they were briefly described, properly preserved and preserved pending transport to the laboratory for analysis. Refer to EXHIBITS_I 1-bxu V for the lithologic plots & other details. Li.thologic cross-sections through the soil borings are shown on PLATE IX. Upon completion of augering operations, the soil samples were transferred under proper chain of custody to FGL laboratory, with instructions to test for BTEX & TPH-G. The results of those analyzes are summarized on TABLE V. Copies of the laboratory sheets & chain-of-custody are included as APPENDIX I . A review of those analyzes revealed that measureable amounts of petroleum hydrocarbon components were detected in all 5 soil borings, and below 451bgl, (Spring 1986 water table depth, ) in soil borings #2, 3, & 4. The levels of contamination were generally highest in the sandier sediments. No water was encountered in any of the bore holes. Because components of gasoline were measured in all 5 of the soil borings, and below recent high water levels, the data indicates that the vertical and horizontal limits of the plume have not been defined. .
