indicating the proximity of the water table. A clean barrel was
inserted, and a corglg.* taken from 7_Q„' _-to 72' . Recovery
consisted of 6" tan to buff silty dry clay, grading to 18" of tan
to brown, soft, friable, fine-grained water sand_ No odor or
visible contamination was noted, but a portion of the core
recorded 250 ppm with the PID meter. The tube at 71 ' was sealed
and preserved using standard field protocol .
The bit insert was reinstalled, and the augers were advanced to
82' ; drill cuttings consisted of wet water sand as described
above. When the auger flights were pulled preparatory to
enlarging the hole for casing, the bottom two feet consisted of
buff to brown sandy clay. Refer toIBITV1 for a lithologic
plot of the well.
While the 8 1/4" flights were being steam--cleaned, the hole was
enlarged with clean 10 1/4" OD flights to allow sufficient
annular space for 4" casing. Drill cuttings and unused core
material was placed in metal drums for future disposal or
remediation.
. After enlarging the hole to bottom, 4" OD, sch. 40, flush joint
threaded PVC was made up and run in the hole to 80' . The bottom
15' was perforated with 6 rows of . 02" horizontal shop--made
slots, (top of perf s at 65' ; ) the rest was blank to the surface.
The annulus was packed with 7 sacks of #2 1/2 graded sand; the
top was located at 60 ' _ The sand was capped with 1 3/4 sacks of
bentonite, (which was wetted with water, ) top was located at 57' .
The top of the casing was sealed and covered, and operations
ceased for the day
The preserved samples were transported under proper chain of
custody to Sherwood Laboratory for analysis by Del Tech with
instructions to test for BTEX & TPH-G.
May 25 1993 - While the auger flights were bung steam-cleaned,
the top of the bentonite seal was rechecked, and the annular
space from that point to the surface was grouted with Class A
construction cement which was thoroughly mixed in a portable
power operated tank equipped with agitator fins When the proper
consistency was reached, the slurry was pumped through a flexible
hose lowered down the annulus. Refer to EXHI$IT_X for a
schematic diagram of the well completion details
The rig was moved and spotted over the location marked for
MONITORING WELD , and operations began using clean 8 1/4"
• augers. Surface sediments consisted of 2-3' of dark brown to
black peaty loam, which graded to a buff to brown silty clay
9
