Under the direction of Charles Fry, & assisted by lion light,
coring operations were conducted using the the same field
Procedures and protocol described in detail for MW-4 The first
core was taken from 10' to 12' . recovery was 24" of buff to brown
silty clay, moist but not wet. No odor was noted, and no PID
reading was taken_ The sample at 11 ' was sealed and preserved on
ice pending transport to the lab for anlysis.
The augers were advanced to 20' ; drill cuttings as above Using
a clean core barrel filled with metal tubes, a core_was teke,n
from 20' to 22' as directed by the geologist. Recovery was 24"
of buff to brown silty clay; there was no odor and a reading with
the PID meter of a sample at 20 ' recorded zero. The sample at
21 ' was sealed and preserved per standard field protocol
While advancing the augers after completion of coring, drill
cuttings indicated a change in lithology to a gray to buff to
brown silty clay with a mottled appearance. Some carbonaceous
material was noted in the cuttings.
The interval from 30' to 32' was cored as described above,
recovery was 24" of gray to buff to brown mottled silty clay A
slight sweet odor was noted, but no evidence of staining or
discoloration was observed_ A portion of the core from 30 ' was
placed in a sealed plastic bag and allowed to warm in the sun.
When the probe of the PID meter was inserted, it gave a reading
of 6 ppm_ The middle sample was sealed and preserved , and
augering was resumed.
Drill cuttings from 30' to 40' were the same as described above
A clean sample barrel was inserted, ands core w.,,aa _taken._from 40 '
to 42' . Recovery was 18" of tan to brown to gray silty to sandy
clay; plastic but firm. No visible contamination was evident,
but a sweetish odor was noted when the barrel was opened The
PID meter read 30 ppm from a portion of cored material at 40 '
The portion of the core from 41 ' to 41 ' 6 was sealed and
preserved as described previously
The well was advanced to 50' ; drill cuttings consisted primarily
of brown to gray silty clay. A core was taken from 50 ' to 52' :
recovery was 18" of tan to buff silty clay, firm, dry, & crumbly
The same sweet odor was noted upon opening the core barrel; there
was no visible staining. A core sample was tested with the PID
meter, but read zero. The middle tube was sealed and preserved
for .later analysis.
. Augers were advanced to 60' ; drill cuttings consisted of tan to
buff clay as above. A clean core barrel was lowered into the
10
