• included in Appendix G Based on the analytical results, approximately 112 pounds of hydrocarbon
vapors per hour (lbs/hr) were extracted from VE-1 during the combined test
Data Analysis
Soil vapor extraction (SVE) analysis was conducted on the data from extraction well VE-1 Darcy
Equation analysis for this well, presented on Calculation Sheets F-1 and F-2, indicated an average
soil permeability of 159 x 10"8 cm2 Critical velocity analysis, presented on Calculation Sheet F-3,
indicated that a radial influence of approximately 26 feet was possible at the average flow rates
determined from the SVE testing data
All AS and SVE pilot testing data is summarized in Tables 4 through 7 and the analysis is
summarized in Appendix F
D. RECOMMENDED REMEDIATION TECHNOLOGIES
The results of the air sparging and soil vapor extraction pilot testing indicated these are feasible
treatment technologies for the impacted soil and groundwater at this site The results of the
enhanced bioremediation pilot testing indicated that both oxygen and nutrient augmentation are
• feasible treatment technologies for the impacted soil and groundwater at this site Based on the pilot
testing results, an AS/SVE combination was selected as the best treatment technology for the site
In addition, enhanced bioremediation will also play a role, as oxygen augmentation to the subsurface
occurs from the AS/SVE operations
E. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Air sparging and soil vapor extraction pilot testing activities were conducted to assist in determining
the hydrologic characteristics at the site and system design parameters
Conclusions
Based on the results of the pilot testing activities, the following conclusions were drawn
• Review of the air sparging data and graphs indicated a radial influence of approximately
10 feet AS well operating parameters were determined to be approximately 2 to 3 scfm per
well at infection pressures of 3 to 4 psig
• Review of the soil vapor extraction data and graphs indicated a radial influence of
approximately 26 to 30 feet, depending upon the criteria utilized SVE well parameters were
determined to be 39 to 48 scfm per well at vacuums varying from 70 to 92 in w c (injection
pressures of 3 to 4 psig
• The average soil permeability was determined to be 1 59 x 10-8 cm2
III-6
