07 May 2008
AGE-NC Project No. 08-3237
SCOPE OF WORK
AGE proposes to advance a total of three soil borings (B-1 through B-3) on site to total depths of
between 35 and 50 feet below surface grade(bsg),for the collection of grab ground water and/or soil
samples. Soil borings will be advanced in the former gasoline station area of the property located
near the northwest corner of the site(Figure 2).The soil borings will be advanced in the areas which
appear to have been occupied by dispenser canopy and possible UST locations. Additional soil
borings may be required if significant hydrocarbon contamination is detected in the field.
Probe borings will be advanced using a van-mounted Geoprobe 5400 direct-push probing unit
equipped with 1.25-inch probing rods. The Geoprobe advances soil probe borings using a hydraulic
hammer to drive soil sampling tools to specified depths.
Soil boring will be sampled at discreet five-foot intervals using a 1.125-inch Geoprobe soil sampling
assembly loaded with four six-inch brass sleeves. Upon sample retrieval, the ends of the second
sleeve will be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Soils encountered in the
borings will be visually classified by an AGE scientist/geologist in accordance with the Unified Soil
Classification System(USCS).Additionally, soil samples will be field-screened for the presence of
volatile organic compounds using an organic vapor meter(OVM), equipped with photo-ionization
detector(PID).
Prior to use,all sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water
after being washed with a solution of Alconox. All probing rods will be cleaned prior to
advancement at each probe boring location.
For the collection of grab ground water samples, soil probe borings will be advanced to the top of
the ground water table as identified by collection of a saturated soil sample. Once ground water has
been encountered,a Geoprobe push-driven water sampling device will be advanced two to three feet
into the water-bearing zone. Grab ground water sample will be collected using a Geoprobe water
sampling assembly fitted with a pre-cleaned,one-inch diameter 0.01-slotted temporary well screen.
The ground water sample will be extracted by lowering a polyethylene bailer through the hollow
center of the push rods into the screen section.
Appropriately sealed and labeled soil and ground water samples will be placed in chilled containers
under ice and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a CDPH-certified laboratory. Each
sample container will be labeled with the boring designation, time, date and sampler's initials.
Selected samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Public Health (CDPH)-
certified laboratory for the following constituents:
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
