The objective of the Work Plan is to delineate a shallow
source of fumigant pesticides ethylene dibromide (EDB), 1 ,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane
(DBCP), and sulfolane in soils.
The scope of the Work Plan includes the following elements:
• Installation of 18 soil borings to 12 ft below ground surface in the vicinity of well PW18.
• Collection of soil samples in three depth intervals and analysis for EDB. DBCP, and
sulfolane.
The Regional Water Board staff supports the characterization of the soils in the vadose zone
as a potential source area for fumigants near well PW-18. Based on the 3 April 2008
responses by Glenn Springs Holdings to my comments on the Work Plan and our discussion
of the matter during the 22 April 2008 annual meeting, I concur with the rationale, scope, and
schedule for the proposed work.
If you have any questions regarding this correspondence, please contact me by teiephone at
(916) 464-1588 or by email at kdominic@waterboards.ca.gov.
Kathryn L.
