Mr. Timothy VanDomelen - 3 - 9 May 2008
J.R. Simplot, Lathrop
Comment Source Resolution
Number
p. 2 pond lysimeters would be provided to the Regional Water Board
in the second quarter 2008 monitoring report,
due 1 August 2008.
12 Addendum The excavated soils from the process water release area were
p. 4 and not disposed off-site, but put back into the plant process for the
annual manufacture of fertilizer pellets. Soil was excavated and
meeting sampled based on the presence of moisture and white sulfate
precipitate. Initial samples were collected from the bottom of the
excavation. Additional samples were collected one year after the
release because John Yanak felt more sampling was needed.
The excavation remains open until the proposed sampling is
complete.
13 Addendum Additionally, sample EB-BF will be analyzed by D.I. WET
p. 4 analysis and reported in the Progress Report due
21 October 2008.
14 Addendum See comment #2 above.
p. 4
15 Addendum Figure 2 shows that groundwater and soil samples will be
p. 4 and collected from the same locations. EB-AK will be a discrete-
Fi ure 2 depth sampling location in the berm surrounding the tank.
16 Addendum We discussed using a site-wide soil background sampling
p.4 and location more representative of conditions outside the active
Annual plant than EB-AY. Regional Water Board staff request a
Meeting proposed alternate location for characterization of background
soils. Please provide this information in a letter by
27 Ma 2008.
17 Addendum Step-out protocol is not technically feasible in the UN-32 release
p. 4 and area because of containment berms and limited downgradient
Annual area unaffected by former plant activities. Regional Water
Meeting Board staff agreed to the proposed sampling as shown in Figure
3; however, more delineation may be required.
18 Addendum Additional sample from EB-AI will be analyzed by D. I. WET
p. 4. analysis and reported in the Progress Report due
21 October 2008.
19 Addendum Groundwater from well LP-8 will be collected the week of
p. 5 7 July 2008 and reported in the second quarter monitoring
report due 1 August 2008.
20 Addendum Figure 3 shows location of the release area and proposed
pp. 3 and 4, sample locations. Rationale for these locations was discussed
and Figure during meeting.
3
21 Addendum Additional sample from boring EB-AN will be analyzed by D.I.
p. 4 and WET analysis and reported in the Progress Report due
Appendix B 21 October 2008.
Regional Water Board staff request full documentation in that
