Mr. Timothy VanDomelen - 4 - 9 May 2008
J.R. Simplot, Lathrop
Comment Source Resolution
Number
report of the size of the release, what was excavated, when and
how excavation was done, how much material was removed, the
fate of excavated wastes, and how confirmation of removal to
the full extent is achieved.
22 Addendum The area east of Howland Road was backfilled with gravel out of
p. 4 and concern for hazards caused by a large open hole near the
Figure 3 roadway. Samples from the base of the excavation proposed
will include analysis by D. I. WET for boring EB-AN.
23 Addendum See comment #4 above regarding site background.
p. 2 and
Annual
Meeting
24 Addendum Geomatrix believes that the ammonium sulfate release is
pp. 4-5 and shallow and that eight soil borings and a downgradient
Annual groundwater grab sample are sufficient for its characterization.
Meeting The soil borings will be used for depth-discrete groundwater
sampling. Results will be summarized in the Progress Report
due 21 October 2008 (may include proposal for additional wells
if warranted by findings).
25 Addendum Discussion centered on what could be done this year to clean up
p. 4 and groundwater. A site conceptual model is needed to formulate a
Annual comprehensive approach to site cleanup. A conceptual site
Meeting model will be summarized in the Progress Report due
21 July 2008.
Incorporating monitoring wells LP-8 and LP-9 into regular
monitoring would give helpful information on the groundwater.
Sampling LP-9 as part of the upcoming field investigation is not
mentioned in the Addendum. Tim Van Domelen confirmed that
the well would be sampled by telephone on 5 May 2008.
Regional Water Board staff recommended driving all future site
investigation work toward overall remedial action for the facility—
most probably beginning with an aquifer pumping test. Please
provide a proposal for an aquifer testing program in the progress
report due 21 October 2008.
26 Annual J.R. Simplot will be providing reports to Glenn Springs Holdings
Meeting (Nam Baek) and their consultant, Conestoga-Rovers &
Associates.
In summary, the following outstanding items should be addressed in a letter by 27 May 2008:
• Selection of an alternate location for background groundwater and background soil
sampling.
• Addition of ammonium, general minerals, and TDS to the groundwater analytical program.
As stated in the Addendum, J.R. Simplot has committed to the following items and due dates:
