Mr. George Luxbacher -2 - 30 May 2013
On 8 October 2012, a camera survey of well EW-04, which was recently approved to be
converted to an injection well, indicated severe fouling in the well's screened intervals. Due to
this fouling, GHS attempted to redevelop the well. Although the well redevelopment activities
did yield improvement in specific capacity of the well, it was not to a level suitable to
accommodate the proposed injection rates. Therefore, GHS proposes to install injection well
.INJ-14 at an alternate location south of EW-04. The purpose of proposed injection well INJ-14
is to accelerate the groundwater remedy by introducing treated oxygenated water into targeted
zones to both enhance in-situ aerobic biodegradation of sulfolane and achieve accelerated
pore-volume flushing of COCs towards the extraction wells.
Central Valley Water Board staff concurs with the proposed work in the Report. Please provide
at least a one-week notice of field activities to allow Central Valley Water Board staff the
opportunity to observe the fieldwork.
If you have questions or comments, please contact me at 916-464-4658, or by E-mail at
ssewalia@waterboards.ca.gov
Siddharth Sewalia
Water Resource Control Engineer
Private Sites Cleanup Unit
cc: Mr. John L.
