Soil Sampling Work Plan
Stockton,CA-SJRRC Property Exchange C)
Assessor's Parcel Number 117-09-014 a ntea g ro u p
Antea Group Project No. UPR8281A
2.0 PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
Antea Group proposes to advance 20 soil borings to a depth of five (5) feet below ground surface (bgs) for the
collection of soil samples. The locations for the hand auger borings are shown on Figure 2.
In the northern portion of the property, borings HA-3 and HA-5 are situated to evaluate conditions near the former
teepee incinerator.
Borings in the southern portion of the property (HA-17 through HA-20) are tightly clustered due to previous
focused investigation in this area, including numerous groundwater samples exceeding RBRGs, and the lack of
available soil data(AMEC 2009).
Remaining borings are situated to provide comprehensive data on the remainder of the site to assess current
conditions as well as potential railroad worker exposure within the proposed property transfer area.
2.1 Pre Field Activities
Prior to initiating field activities, Antea Group will prepare a Health and Safety Plan (HASP) in accordance with
Title 8, Section 5192 of the California Code of Regulations. The HASP will contain a list of emergency contacts, as
well as a map showing the route to the nearest emergency facility, and will be reviewed daily by field personnel.
Antea Group will open an Underground Service Alert ticket and contact railroad specific utility locator services at
least 48 hours prior to ground disturbance in order to locate all utilities beneath the work locations. Antea Group
will obtain permits for soil borings, and will make all required notifications prior to commencing field work.
2.2 Soil Borings
Soil borings will be advanced to a maximum of five feet using a hand auger operated by a licensed C-57 drilling
contractor. Down-hole tools will be decontaminated between each boring by using a non-phosphate detergent
and water wash, water rinse, initial deionized/distilled water rinse and final deionized/distilled water rinse, per the
DTSC-approved Soil Management Plan, further discussed below in Section 2.4.
Upon completion of each hand auger location, bores will be backfilled to grade with Portland cement.
2.3 Soil Sampling
Surface soil samples from 0-0.5 feet bgs will be collected since railroad workers will have greatest exposure to
surface soils, and surface soils are expected to contain the greatest concentrations of CDCs. Deeper soil samples
from 4.5-5 feet bgs will also be analyzed in order to determine railroad worker exposure during trenching or
digging onsite. Soil will be classified using the Unified Soil Classification System and logged onto soil boring logs.
Soil from each boring will be field-screened using a Photoionization detector (PID). These readings will be
3 www.anteagroup.com
