MUM-
5 F111 1 POW N
kat`
FIELD PROCEDURES
q FDecember
med at the site by Applied GeoSystems on behalf of the City of Stockton
accordance with Applied GeoSystems' Site Safety Plan i\'o. ;8009-IS,
9, 1988, and an updated Safety Plan dated 35009 25, dated lanuanI 17,
1990. This plan describes the basic safety requirements for our work at the site. Applied
GeoSystems personnel and subcontractors scheduled to perform work at the site are briefed
ort the contents of the site safety plan before work begins. A copy of the site safety plan
was available for reference by appropriate parties during the work. The onsite Staff
Geologist acted as the Site Safety Officer.
p'}
Drilling Methods
Before drilling, Applied GeoSystems notified Underground Service Alert of our intent to
drill so that approximate locations of underground utility lines and structures could be
marked- We hand-augered each boring to a depth of approximately 5 feet below grade to
attempt to locate underground structures. The borings were drilled with a Mobile CINIE 55
drill rig equipped with 8-inch-diameter, hollow-stem augers. The drillers steam-cleaned the
augers before drilling each boring to minimize the possibility of cross-contamination.
Soil SamQlling in Borings
Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals from the ground surface to the full depth of
the borings. The soil samples were collected by advancing the boring to a point immediately
above the sampling depth, and then driving a California-modified, split-spoon sampler
containing equipped with clean brass sleeves through the hollow center of the auger into
the undisturbed native soil. The sampler and brass sleeves were steam-cleaned or washed
thoroughly with a laboratory-grade. non-phosphatic detergent and water before each use.
The sampler was driven 18 inches with a standard 140-pound hammer repeatedly dropped
30 inches. The number of blow's to drive the sampler each successive 6 inches were counted
and recorded to evaluate the relative consistency of the soil.
v
Q lied 49eoS st
p, y ems
