k" KLEINFELDER
areas of the site due to deuradation of vegetation in the lime. Soil was not excavated at depths
greater than 20.
Groundwater was encountered at depths of about 6 to 8 feet bgs.
One soil and two groundwater samples were collected from Site B per the request of Robert
McCollum from the PIIS/CHD. The groundwater samples, CSW (6/16/99 and 6120/99) were
taken from a disposable pre-cleaned bailer. The second groundwater sample collected on
6/20/99 was for metal analyses only. This groundwater sample was filtered and preserved in the
field prior to the metal analyses. The soil sample was collected.just below the slaked lime and
above groundwater at an approximate depth of 10 feet bgs. The soil sample CS7 was sampled by
!land using a clean stainless steel tube pushed into the soil. Mr. McCallum requested that the
single soil sample CS7 and the ,Iroundwater samples CSW (6/16/09 and 6/20/99) should be
submitted for the analytes listed in Chapter 5 of this report.
4.1.2 Excavation of Dis msal Site C
Site C was an irregular oval-shaped excavation approximately 250 feet long and up to 150 feet
wide by an average of 10 legit deep. Approximately 10,000 cubic yards of soil/debris was
removed. Debris included sheet metal.concrete, culvert piping. bricks. wire and wood. Mr. Rod
Getty fi-om DSS estimated dolt debris at this location was approximately 25 percent by volume.
Concrete was estimated to he above 70 percent of the debris material.
Soils encountered included clavey sill and silty sand. No discolored soil or unusual odors were
noted durin- excavation actiVities.
T
Groundwater was encountered at depths of about 6 to 9 feet bis.
A total of six soil samples labeled CS I through CS6 were collected fi'om Site C. Groundwater
samples were not requested by Itohert McCollum at this location. Groundwater seeped into this
excavation slowly and generally was not present as free water while excavating. Additionally,
for production and safety reasons haeklilling and compaction was conducted during excavation
activities. Six excavation bottom samples were collected at depth ranking From six to twelve feet
bgs. (see Plate 3). The soil samples were collected near the teeth of the excavator bucket. The
soil samples were collected by hand using a clean stainless steel tube pushed into the soil. Mr.
McCollum requested soil Samples CS I and CSI be analyzed for selected analytes listed in
Chapter 5 of this report.
20-3978-03.\\Ii612019766 Paee 10ol'20
©1999.Kleinl'eldcr.InC. 5eptemhcr% 1999
