Work Plan—Additional Soil and Groundwater Investigation
CSUS—Multi-Campus Regional Center
October 5,2001
Page-6-
from each monitor well. The purged water from each well will be placed in 55-gallon drums, sealed,
labeled, and left on-site pending results of laboratory analyses.
Each well will be allowed to recover to at least 80% of its pre-purge water level before sampling.
However, if any of the monitor wells does not recover to at least 80% of its pre-purge water level by the
end of the day of the purge (standard workday), the monitor well will be sampled at that time and the
percent recovery noted. The groundwater samples will be collected with clean, disposable bailers. Each
water sample will be gently drained from the bailer into the appropriate laboratory supplied containers.
The sample containers will be sealed, labeled, placed in a cooler chilled with Blue Ice®, and delivered
under chain-of-custody procedures to a California certified laboratory for analyses.
5.0 LABORATORY ANALYSES
The soil samples collected from the borings will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified
as gasoline (TPH-G) and total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons (TEPH) quantified as kerosene,
diesel, and motor oil by EPA Method 8015M; for benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes
`r (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020; and for gasoline oxygenates/additives by EPA Method 8260. The
gasoline oxygenates/additives include Methyl tertiary-Butyl Ether (MTBE), ethanol, tertiary-Butanol,
Di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), Ethyl tertiary-Butyl Ether(ETBE), and tertiary-amyl Methyl Ether (TAME).
` The groundwater samples collected from the borings and monitor wells will be analyzed for TPH-G and
TEPH quantified as kerosene, diesel and motor oil by EPA Method 8015M; for BTEX by EPA Method
8020; and for gasoline oxygenates/additives by EPA Method 8260. For the groundwater samples only,
the gasoline oxygenates/additives will include ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-
DCA) in addition to the six compounds described above. The samples will be delivered under chain-of-
custody procedures to a California certified laboratory for analysis. The analytical methods and analytical
detection limits are presented in Table 1.
TABLE 1
Laboratory Analytical Methods
CONSTITUENT METHOD DETECTION LIMIT
Soil
BTEX 8020 5.0 Mg/kg
TPH-G 8015M 1.0 mg/kg
TEPH 8015M 1.0 mg/kg(D)5.0 mg/kg(K) 10.0 mg/kg(MO)
y Gasoline Additives/Oxygenates 8260 5 Mg/kg- 100 gg/kg
Groundwater
BTEX 8020 0.5 gg/L
TPH-G 8015M 50 gg/L
TEPH 8015M 5.0 gg/L(K,D)50.0 gg/L(MO)
r
Gasoline Additives/oxygenates 8260 1.0 gg/L-50.0 gg/L
D=diesel
K=kerosene
MO=motor oil
r
A•
t rir CONDOR
r
