f
Stockton Unified School District
Geological and Environmental Hazards Assessment
CSU-Stanislaus, Stockton Campus School Site
Page 14
Its the .1952 aerial photograph, a building has been added in the southeastern quarter,of the site property.
A truck Ioading/unloading complex appears to have replaced the eastern farm complex that was located
immediately within and adjacent to the northeastern site boundary: In the southwestern quarter of the
property, the gently curving road remains, but the north-south-oriented building appears to have been
removed. Two or three small buildings appear to have been added along the southwestern site boundary.
The southern portion of the road along the western border of the property has been:improved. Midway
along the western site boundary, the road gently curves northwest, away from the site. The northwest-
oriented single lane road is no longer evident in the western portion of the site. The road forming the
northern site boundary appears to have been improved.,.Tlie 1963 aerial photograph shows no apparent
changes.
The 1975 aerial photograph reveals a track and field constructed in the northeastern quadrant. q, t of the site,
replacing several old buildings. The building in the southeastern quarter of the site appears altered from
the 1963 photograph, depicting more the building arrangement seen in the 1952 photograph. The
remnants of the orchard that were located in the southeastern portion of the site are no longer evident_The
western half of the site is relatively unchanged except for what appears to be a series of small, north-
f'', northwest oriented buildings, central to the site and extending north off of the gently curving east-west
road.
The 1983 aerial photograph is more distinctive. The northeastern quadrant of the site is dominated by the
' track and field with vehicles parked to the east, west, and south. The two elongated buildings in the
southeastern portion of the site appear to have a common open area to the west of the buildings. The
k, western half of the site appears to remain dominantly open space. Three small buildings appear to be
Llocated in the southwest corner of the site; access to one of these appears to be from the paved road that
forms the southern site boundary.
USGS topographic maps from 1952, 1968, 1976, and 1987 were reviewed for the site properties. The
1952 map indicates seven structures on the site. Paved roads are located 1 to the north and south of the
site, (2) bisecting the site north to south, and (3) encircling the northeastern quarter of the site. Three of
` the larger structures are located within the northeastern quarter, and portions of two structures are located
along the eastern site boundary. A spur from the railroad tracks located cast of the site appears to touch
the site boundary. A structure is located in the southeastern quarter and in the southwestern quarter. The
1'968 map indicates a road had been constructed that traverses the site from the western site boundary, in a
southeasterly curved direction, to just below the center of the site, intersecting the north-south trending
central road. All seven structures appear to have either been removed or replaced. The' structures located
in the northeast quarter and the southwest quarter have been removed. The two structures Iocated along
the eastern site boundary have either been modified and/or replaced. The structure located in the
southeasterly quarter has either been modified to, or replaced by, an L-shaped building. A smaller
structure, located to the west of this L-shaped building, also appears to have been added. The 1968 map
indicated a track and field has been added in the northeastern quarter of the site.No change is apparent on
the 1987 map.
The Polk City Directories indicated the site parcel/property to be located at the following addresses for
the given year(s): 1937-1943 Hospital for the Insane, 1947 Stockton-State Hospital at 1200 N. California
Street; 1957-1979 Stockton State Hospital at 510 Magnolia Street; 1984 Stockton Developmental Center
at 510 Magnolia Street; and 1990 Adult Developmental Center at 510 Magnolia Street.
{ i CONDOR
