Regionally, the upper 3,000 feet of Great Valley alluvial sediments are indicative of the Sierra Nevada <br /> ` granitic basement rocks to the east and, to a lesser degree, the Coast Range marine and non-marine <br /> sediments and Franciscan and granitic basement.rocks to the west. <br /> i <br /> According to published geologic maps, surface deposits underlying the site consist.'of arkosic alluvium <br /> belonging to the Modesto Formation. Unconsolidated alluvial sediment rests upon several thousand feet <br /> Of upper Cretaceous marine sedimentary rock belonging to the Great Valley Sequence. The United:States <br /> Department of Agriculture Soil Survey of San Joaquin County, California, 1992, classifies the site surface <br /> soils as Jacktone— Urban Land Complex. The Jacktone—Urban Land Complex is comprised of clays and <br /> clay loams that have.a high shrink-swell potential, slow permeability rate, and low strength. The site soils <br /> ,are characterized as having a moderate to high expansion potential. The site is shown on Figures I <br /> through 7 contained in Appendix A. <br /> 5.3 EXTERIOR OBSERVATIONS <br /> The site currently consists of a track and field in the northeastern quarter; storage buildings, a designated <br /> historical building, and a PG&E electrical station in the southeastern quarter; a parking area, a road, a <br /> sewer screening station, a restroom facility, a residence, and a drug abuse-recovery housein the <br /> southwestern quarter; a park area in the northwestern; quarter; and along the eastern road, several <br /> # abandoned buildings. The site has historically been used for institutional purposes. <br /> There are six roads on the site. Three of these are east-west oriented: E. Acacia Street!forms the narthern <br /> j boundary; E. Park Street forms the southern boundary; and E. Flora Street is the southern boundary for <br /> the track and field and gently curves to the southwest after it passes west of N. Grant°Street. Three of the <br /> roads trend north-south: N. Aurora Street is located alongthe eastern boundary; N. Grant Street bisects <br /> ry' <br /> the site; and a portion of N. Stanislaus Street is the western site boundary. Sidewalks are located:along <br /> F most of the roads. Underground sprinklers are located throughout the site, and an underground street <br /> lighting system connects. the street lamps located throughout the site. Several fire hydrants are located' <br /> along the roads, and the site is serviced by varyingsystems as follows: underground "gravity-fed sewer <br /> Y g <br /> rpotable water, stone drain, electrical, telephone, natural gas, and a steam tunnel system:. <br /> A track and field is located in the northeastern quarter and is bounded by N. Acacia;Street, N. Aurora <br /> Street,E. Flora Street, and N. Grant Street. There are bleachers located on the western side of the track. <br /> Three storage buildings (one brick one concrete and one metal), a historical building,g, and a PG&E <br /> distribution station are located south of E. Flora Street in the southeastern quarter. A truck weight scale is <br /> located to the west of the brick storage building (circa 1860s), and a raised sidewalk is located along the <br /> northern side of the three connected storage buildings. Two fire hydrants are located on the pavement area <br /> east of the sidewalk. Three groundwater-monitoring wells are located in the pavement. Mr. Meunier <br /> indicated that this area is the site of a current UST soil and groundwater investigation and clean-up. <br /> L Fourteen 55-gallon drums were located against the northeastern corner of the building. According to <br /> Condor, these are filled with soil cuttings and groundwater from the installation and sampling of the <br /> Lf monitoring wells. An electrical switching station (non-.PCB containing) was also located in this area. Bin <br /> piles of composted soil (the bin was indicated as having been used for asphalt), clean fill dirt, and a scrap- <br /> metal pile containing metal shelving are located along the eastern side of the building. An empty, plastic,- <br /> 5 5-gallon <br /> lastic,55-gallon drum was located in the concrete compost bin. Stockpiles of dirt with concrete debris were <br /> U0 located along the southern boundary fence fine. A cyclone fenced-in area containing a large PG&E- <br /> owned distribution transformer was located between the building and Park Street; this approximately <br /> j 50,000-volt distribution transformer provides power to the site and other areas of the entire parcel via <br /> I i CONDOR <br /> i <br />
