i( I
l .
Stockton.Unified School District _
.: Geological and Environmental Hazards Assessment
CSU-Stanislaus,Stockton Campus School Site
E Page 19
..non-PCB containing switching stations located throughout the entire parcel. Condor was able to access
.the interior of the metal and concrete buildings (circa 1950s), which contained hospital and institutional
furniture and equipment; a hydraulic elevator was also located inside the concrete building.
A historical building, the Grant House at 710 N. Grant.Street built in the 1800s; is:located west of the
PG&E transformer and is currently occupied. Mr. Meunier indicated that it had a gravity-fed natural gas
furnace in the basement. A gravity-flow sewer screening station made of concrete screen block is located
along the southern site boundary to the west of Grant House. An asphalt parking area; which is accessed
from E. Flora Street, is located north of the sewer station. The former Stockton Fire Station, now a drug
abuse-recovery house, is located west of the sewer station in the southwestern quarter of the site.
a
The park.area is a grassy area with several species of trees that include valley oak, magnolia, and willow.
.The park area extends onto the western adjacent property and is encompassed to the north by E. Acacia
Street, to the east by N. Grant Street, and to the south by E. Flora. Street. Pedestal barbeque pits; street
lamps, a restroom facility, and five approximately 10'x10' concrete slabs, possibly.used for canopied
shelters, were also a part of the park area.
Several buildings are located along N. Aurora Street (also the eastern road). Starting.from north to south
' are the original brick boiler plant (circa 1860s), the old concrete carpenter shop (circa 1950s), and the
metal garage/maintenance shop. The ages of these buildings indicate the potential use of lead and asbestos
products.
The following items were not observed at the site during the site reconnaissance unless otherwise noted
' 4 below.
I. Source of potable water
The area is serviced by California Water Service Company.
2. Sewage disposal
The buildi s are connected to^an_und_ erground gravity-flow sewer system that connects
in the southern portion of the site and flows off of the property; access to the sewer
screen is also located in this area.
3. Hazardous substances and petroleum products in connection with identified uses
l 4. Storage tanks
5. Odors
6. Pools of liquid
7. Drums
Fourteen 55-Zallon drums were observed at the northeastern corner of the storage
buildings. These drums appear to be filled with soil cuttings and groundwater from the
_ installation and sampling of the monitoring wells. One empty, plastic 55-gallon Bruin was
located in the compost bin.
8. Hazardous substances and petroleuin products containers
9. PCBs
10. Unidentified substance containers
I l Stained soil or pavement
12. Pits, P onds or lagoons
13. Stressed vegetation
14.
