Soi.l bor3-ngs were completed to ten feet in at both locations.
Barings were made using hand auger equipment. Boring logs are
presented zn the appendix. Somal samples were taken using brass
sleeves fitted in a 2 inch diameter, 6 inch long, core sampler.
The core sampler was advanced into undisturbed soil with a slmde
hammer.
Soil samples were taken at 2 feet, 6-7 feet and 10 feet below
grade . Samples were sealed with fowl lined end caps, chilled and
transported to the analytical laboratory under chain of custody .
Chain of custody forms are included in the appendix.
3 . 1 .4 Flightline Outfall
Flow from the downstream discharge pit is enclosed in underground
piping until released to Little John Creek. There is, however, a
catch basin on the west side of the flight line containing
sediment. A sediment sample from the west side flight line catch
basin was collected for analytical testing. Figure 2 illustrates
the sample location indicated as the downstream catch basin.
3 .2 Analytical Schedule
All soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons,
purgeable aromatics and semi-volatile organics utilzzsng EPA
methods m8015, 602 and 8270, respectively. These analyses w3_11
detect the presence of both solvent and fuel contaminants in the
samples. Specific practical quantitation limits are listed on the
original laboratory report forms in the appendix. Detection
limits meet or exceed those specified in the Tri-Regional
Guidelines (Aug. 1990 ) .
Laboratory analysers were performed by Eureka Laboratories in
Sacramento. Eureka Labs is DHS certified for all test procedures
performed.
3.3 Quality Assurance/Quality Control
The site investigation was conducted by West & Hansen Engineers,
Inc. under Contract CS 6788 with the Office of the State Architect .
West & Hansen Engineers was selected based on technical
qualifications and has successfully performed many past site
investigation projects for OSA.
All site work was performed under direct supervision of a West &
Hansen Engineers, Inc. Project Manager holding a current California
registration in civil engineering. All equipment, materials and
supplies used at the site were new or were de-contaminated in
accordance with US EPA specifications. Equipment contacting
13
