r} _ .
w
fdr: R: J. Edwards r2- 8 October 1986
r.E ,
in -the waste oil tank area but was not completed. In order to complete the site
characterization , the monitoring well must be installed and water samples
analyzed. Also, it is our understanding that there were two concrete walls and a
partial concrete floor in the oil/wastewater pit. Were these removed and taken to
a Class I site? Please have your consultant prepare a plan for drilling the
_ monitoring well and apply for the proper permits with the County.
Turlock - Stanislaus Count
The Regional- Board Ground Water/Technical Support Section reviewed your report for
mitigating ground water contamination for: the-_former. Mobil Station 'at >Marshall`and
Golden State Boulevard in Turlock , and disagree with the findings of Alton
Geoscience Consultants that 900 ppb benzene is "slightly higher than DOHS recom-
mended action levels for drinking water" (0.7 ppb) . The report does not contain
sufficient data concerning depth to ground water, ground water gradient, local
geology, soil conditions, continuity with drinking water aquifers, and proximity to
local domestic and irrigation wells. Please have your consultant prepare a proper
report for our review.
It is our understanding that the site has been sold and there is construction
on-site that has destroyed the original monitoring wells. Please prepare a plan
to establish a new monitoring well network to determine the aerial/vertical extent 3
of sot/1 and ground water contamination and submit it for our approval by 17
October 1986.
If y Fha questions, please call me at (916) 323-7461.
G RDQN
derw
ProgrnatorGLB:gs
cc: Lulla, San Joaquin County Env.
