�Jobil Oil Corporation KEI-J86-084 <br /> Page 2 August 27 , 1986 <br /> FIELD INVESTIGATION ` <br /> The field investigation was conducted on August 19 , 20 and 21 , <br /> 1986 consisting of water and soil sampling from the excavated <br /> area of underground fuel tanks. The water and soil samples were <br /> taken under the supervision of Miss Laurie Cotulla , a staff of <br /> San Joaquin County Health Department . The location of the tank <br /> pit , soil and water samples are shown on the attached sketch . <br /> Three grab water samples were taken and composited as one sample <br /> from the fuel tank area . In addition , two soil samples were <br /> taken , one at about 6 .8 feet below the surface from the side wall <br /> of the waste oil tank and the other beneath the product lines <br /> approximately 4 feet below the groundsurface . The samples were <br /> taken according to EPA , state and local agencies guidelines and <br /> were delivered to the Sequoia Laboratory in Redwwod City , <br /> California . <br /> Light sheen of petroleum product was noted on the water table <br /> surface . The water table elevation during the sampling was <br /> approximately 7 feet below the ground surface. The sheen and <br /> contaminated groundwater were removed by a licenced waste hauler . <br /> Approximately 10,000 gallons of sheen/groundwater were removed <br /> from the tank pit to a vacuum-equipped tank truck for disposal to <br /> an approved site . <br /> The subsurface soil exposed in the excavation consisted of sandy <br /> silt soil with clay . Minor petroleum odor was noted in the soil <br /> below the product line . <br /> LABORATORY RESULTS <br /> The total dissolved hydrocarbons concentration for the composite <br /> water sample was 30 parts per million (ppm) ; Benzene , Toluene and <br /> Xylene concentrations were 1 . 6 ppm, 3.0 ppm and 5 . 3 ppm <br /> respectively . The results of waste oil soil sample showed total <br /> hydrocarbon concentration of 61 .0 ppm while Benzene , Toluene and <br /> Xylene concentrations were all less than 0. 1 ppm . PCB <br /> concentration was less than 1 .0 ppm and organic solvents (EPA <br /> 8010) were non-detectable . The results for the soil sample <br /> obtained below the product lines showed total hydrocarbon <br /> concentration of 2 . 0 ppm ; Benzene , Toluene , and Xylene <br /> concentrations of 0. 22 ppm, 0. 34 ppm and 0. 29 ppm respectively. <br /> Copies of the laboratory results from Sequoia Analytical <br /> Laboratory will be submitted at a later date . <br />
