�Jobil Oil Corporation KEI-J86-084 Page 2 August 27 , 1986 FIELD INVESTIGATION ` The field investigation was conducted on August 19 , 20 and 21 , 1986 consisting of water and soil sampling from the excavated area of underground fuel tanks. The water and soil samples were taken under the supervision of Miss Laurie Cotulla , a staff of San Joaquin County Health Department . The location of the tank pit , soil and water samples are shown on the attached sketch . Three grab water samples were taken and composited as one sample from the fuel tank area . In addition , two soil samples were taken , one at about 6 .8 feet below the surface from the side wall of the waste oil tank and the other beneath the product lines approximately 4 feet below the groundsurface . The samples were taken according to EPA , state and local agencies guidelines and were delivered to the Sequoia Laboratory in Redwwod City , California . Light sheen of petroleum product was noted on the water table surface . The water table elevation during the sampling was approximately 7 feet below the ground surface. The sheen and contaminated groundwater were removed by a licenced waste hauler . Approximately 10,000 gallons of sheen/groundwater were removed from the tank pit to a vacuum-equipped tank truck for disposal to an approved site . The subsurface soil exposed in the excavation consisted of sandy silt soil with clay . Minor petroleum odor was noted in the soil below the product line . LABORATORY RESULTS The total dissolved hydrocarbons concentration for the composite water sample was 30 parts per million (ppm) ; Benzene , Toluene and Xylene concentrations were 1 . 6 ppm, 3.0 ppm and 5 . 3 ppm respectively . The results of waste oil soil sample showed total hydrocarbon concentration of 61 .0 ppm while Benzene , Toluene and Xylene concentrations were all less than 0. 1 ppm . PCB concentration was less than 1 .0 ppm and organic solvents (EPA 8010) were non-detectable . The results for the soil sample obtained below the product lines showed total hydrocarbon concentration of 2 . 0 ppm ; Benzene , Toluene , and Xylene concentrations of 0. 22 ppm, 0. 34 ppm and 0. 29 ppm respectively. Copies of the laboratory results from Sequoia Analytical Laboratory will be submitted at a later date .
