Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc . ; =-
06 October 2003 RDC ENED
AGE-NC Project No.03-1045
Ms. Margaret Lagorio
OCT. 9 2003.
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY PHS-EHD ENVIRONMENT FILALTH
304 East Weber Avenue, 3rd Floor PERMIT/SERVICES
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Revision to Preliminary Site Assessment Report-August 2003
Lopez Property
1601 Turnpike Road, Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Lagorio:
On behalf ofMr.Steve Dunn,Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.(AGE)has revised the August 2003
Preliminary Site Assessment Report of hydrocarbon-impacted soil and ground water at 1601
Turnpike Road, Stockton, California. The revision include: (1) clarification of previous site
assessment activities and(2)AGE's reasoning for determination of the tank pit boring location.
BACKGROUND
One 1,000-gallon leaded gasoline UST was removed in October 1987; a representative of the San
Joaquin Environmental Health Department(SJCEHD)noted hydrocarbon odor and soil discoloration
at the time of removal.Soil samples were collected at 15 feetbelow surface grade(bsg)and analyzed
for gasoline, diesel,kerosene,motor oil,benzene,toluene,ethyl benzene,xylene(BTEX)and lead;
the analytical results showed non-detect for all analytes except lead(5.5 milligrams per kilogram:
mgflcg). However, the case was not ciosed because; a chain of custody was never submitted, them
was missing documentation, and there was a discrepancy between the SJCEHD evaluation and the
analytical results. An Unauthorized Release Report (UAR) was issued by the SJCEHD in March
1994 to facilitate further site assessment.
As a result, one soil boring was advanced through what was believed to be the former tank
excavation to a depth of 15 feet bsg on 04 June 1996. However, the SJCEHD was notified that the
sample had been lost and the site was re-sampled on 20 June 1996 at a depth of 16 feet bsg. The
analytical data for the 20 June 1996 sampling indicated non-detect for gasoline,BTEX and the fuel
oxygenate compound methyl-tert-butyl-ether(MTBE).The laboratory quality assurance procedures
were questioned by the SJCEHD and resolved in December 1996. The property was given a "no
further action" letter and"closed by the SJCEHD in May 1997.
837 Shaw Road,Stockton,California 95215
Telephone(209)467-1006 FAX(209) 467-1118
