Margaret Lagorio [EH]
From: Margaret Lagorio [EH]
Sent: Wednesday, September 23, 2009 4:22 PM
To: 'rarjak'; acolavita@advgeoenv.com
Cc: Vicki McCartney [EH]; Nuel Henderson [EH]
Subject: RE: Lopez Property
Janet&Judy,
The work plan prepared by AGE is based on our letter to you dated April 2, 2009, in which we recommended a
monitoring well be placed east to sourthest of B-6, a boring that was completed in September 2008, where a water
sample collected at 63-66 feet had 14 parts per billion (ppb)of 1,2-DCA. That boring was on the eastern border
of your property. Since contamination has to be defined, the investigation has to be to the east and that means the
City right of way or private property.
Consultants prefer private property for safety reasons(no traffic)during installation and sampling and we agree
with that reasoning. Most property owner don't allow access. Unless we have data from right next to their property
that shows there is contamination on their property, we don't have reason to insist on their cooperation. So in this
case AGE will probably have to put the well on the City right of way.
I don't know the history of the pri ate property, but generally there should not be contamination on the property.
Data from the soil and groundwa er obtained from the new well will be limited to those contaminants on your
property. We hope the well will t a clean and can be used to show the contaminant plume is defined and perhaps if
needed can be used in any groundwater modeling that may be required.
All wells are constructed to keep out surface contaminants so this should not be a concern.
The most eastern monitoring wells on your property are MW 6 and MW11. There have been no detections of 1,2
DCA in MW6 samples but samples from MW11 have averaged about 80 ppb of 1,2-DCA. You can see all these
data points on the map in the work plan as well as the proposed well location.
I hope this answers your questior s.
Margaret
Margaret Lagorio, REHS
Program Coordinator Unit IV
San Joaquin County Environmen at Health Department
600 E.
