- v r
Union Ice Plant
Project #89-271
1.0 PROJECT IDENTIFICATION
This project has been developed to explore a parcel of
property known as Union Ice Company . This work plan
will explore the possibility of total petroleum
hydrocarbon contamination at this site .
r 1.1 Legal Description
Parcel 3 of the San Joaquin County Assessors map
number 151-12 identifies this property as a 0.95 acre
parcel . The physical address is 425 Forth Union
Street . This parcel is known as [inion Ice . (Figure
1) .
1.2 Site History/Background
On September 22 , 1989 Union Ice Compan executed a
contract for the removal of the two (2 remaining
underground storage tanks located on the property.
These two (2) tanks were 100 and 500 gallons in
capacity. The 100 gallon gasoline tank was located in
the northwest corner of the service yard . The 500
gallon waste oil tank was located under the sidewalk
just south of the main plant on North Union Street
(Figure 2) . During the excavation high levels of
petroleum hydrocarbons were encountered at both
locations . The underground storage tanks were removed
and the excavations were backfilled and covered with
several inches of pea gravel.
Because of this contamination , this work plan was
developed to investigate this site. Analytical data
from soil samples collected from beneath the tanks at
the time of removal were not available at the time
development .
