- NOW.
Union Ice Plant
Phase I & II Remedial. Investigation Plan
Page: 2
2.0 PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The objective of this project is to determine the
vertical and lateral extent of the total petroleum
hydrocarbon contamination identified during the tank
removal . The extent of the contamination plume will
be defined and a feasibility study conducted to
determine the most cost effective and comprehensive
remedial action for the mitigation of the
contamination . This investigation will encompass the
entire facility .
It is possible that contamination could have migrated
off-site because of the tank location .
3.0 SITE WORK PLAN
This Phase I & II work plan will provide a two step
_ soil vapor survey of the area, employing the use of
absorbent traps with semi-permeable membranes which
retain the absorbent and restricts the entry of
extraneous soil particles. See Appendix C for
discussion on process . The first step will be to
bracket the area of investigation for the big picture.
The second step will be to isolate the bracketed
positive area. ( figure 4)
After the data has been evaluated soil boring and
monitoring wells will be accomplished to confirm the
soil gas vapor boundaries . Approximately five
monitoring wells will be installed during the course
of the investigation . These monitoring wells will
provide a neans of collecting further ground water
samples , gradient determination across the site,
formation characterization and ground water
contouring . (Figure 3)
Soil borings will be used to confirm the source of
contamination once the source is isolated . Three (3)
ground water monitoring wells will be installed in an
equilateral triangle a minimum of 100 foot apart to
determine gradient .
