425 North Union Page 2
i
The workplanproposed lan the installation of two monitoring wells. These wells should
P
provide further information regarding groundwater quality, as well as provide data
necessary to determine the groundwater gradient of the site. The proposed placement of
monitoring wells is greater than 80 feet-'from documented soil and groundwater
contamination; and while the proposed;placement of wells will provide gradient
determination, limited information regarding the boundaries of groundwater
contamination may be obtained.
The work plan indicated that soil samples would be collected everyfive feet during the
installation of monitoring wells. The work plan did not indicate which soil samples
collected would undergo analysis. PHS/EHD requests that samples undergo analysis at
sufficient frequency to investigate documented soil contamination.
PHS/EHD does not concur with the recommendation that after three quarters of
groundwater monitoring with "ND" results the wells be destroyed. Insufficient
information is available for PHS/EHD;-to evaluate the recommendation at this time.
ti
Please contact the City of Stockton, Building Division, to obtain a grading permit for the
re-excavation. Please respond to PHS/EHD comments and submit;permit applications
with associated agreements. Field work may commence once the appropriate permits
have been obtained. ,
ES
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Mary Meays, REHS$ of my staff .
at (209) 468-0337.
Jogi Khanna, M.D., M.P.H.
Health Officer
f
Er
ur' A.
