Iornigr location <br /> of Tank ##3, which was a 500 gallon tank that. contained both gasoline and fuel oil or <br /> diesel fuel in the past. It is located outside the perimeter of the property, under the <br /> sidewalk, in the northeast corner of the service yard. <br /> 2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION <br /> The property is located at 425 North Union Street in Stockton, California. Tile property <br /> is approximately 1.5 acres in size and has an ice manufacturing plant, an adjacent rest- <br /> room and a shed on the property. <br /> 3.0 SITE HISTORY <br /> This site has been owned and operated by Union Ice Company for over 100 years. No <br /> previous use of Elie property is known. This site was used to manufacture block ice. <br /> In August 1989, it was discovered that 4 underground tanks were located at the Union <br /> Ice Facility at 425 N. Union Street, in Stockton, California. Tank#1 and Tank#2 were <br /> 10,000 gallon fuel tanks that had been filled with water by Union Ice sometime in the <br /> past. Tank #3 was a 500 gallon tank that contained both gasoline and fuel oil or die-vel <br /> fuel in the past, and Tank #4 was a 250 gallon tank that contained waste oil. h1 <br /> September of 1989, these tanks were removed by "Semco" under permit and under the <br /> direction of the San Joaquin Environmental Health Department. <br /> All tanks were disposed of according to law. Soil samples were taken beneath all 4 <br /> tanks. It was determined that Tanks #1 and #2 had not leaked. Tank#4, however, ha-,: <br /> leaked at some time in the past, or had been overfilled. A soil sample was taken <br /> approximately 5 feet below the bottom of 'Tank ##4, and lab results show "none <br /> detected." Tank #3 had leaked, and in November of 1989, a proposal to excavate the <br /> contaminated soil from Tank #f3 was submitted to the San Joaquin County Health <br /> Department. This proposal was accepted, and on January I8, 1990, the excavation was <br /> begu_n.. The excavation was completed on January 24, 1990. Approximately 550 yards <br /> ------------- <br /> -- <br /> of soil was excavated, and was rcmediated at the Union Ice, Weber Street site. <br />
