Hazardous Waste Management Program <br />Revised 3/21/16 <br />IDENTIFYING HAZARDOUS WASTE <br />Some merchandise may NOT go in the trash/dumpster or be disposed of down sinks, toilets or down <br />any drains. The disposal of damaged items must follow a basic three part process outlined below <br />to determine if it is eligible to be placed in a hazardous material tote. Management must process <br />damaged merchandise DAILY. This Hazardous Waste Management Program must be used to <br />evaluate anything you need to dispose at the store. <br />#1 - Is It Waste? <br />:DVWHLVGH¿QHGDV³$QLWHPWKDWFDQQRORQJHUEHXVHGIRULWVLQWHQGHGSXUSRVH´ <br />Three examples of waste include: <br />• Items that have been marked down to zero to be disposed at the store level and cannot be sold due <br /> to leaking condition, etc. <br />• Items that can no longer be used such as an empty aerosol can or an aerosol can with a <br /> missing nozzle. <br />• Items that are “waste like”, such as spill cleanup materials or items that are unsafe to dispose of in <br /> the trash. <br />Does the item demonstrate any of the following? <br />8VHWKHH[DPSOHVEHORZWRGHWHUPLQHLIDQLWHPTXDOL¿HVDV³ZDVWH´ <br />Leaking About to Leak Partially Full <br />Empty Aerosol Can Missing Nozzle Expired HBC <br />15
