FARR ASSOCIATES
R
adjacent to Tank#3, and one goal of the soil-gas and soils investigation was to evaluate
whether or not Tanks #1 and #2 were a potential source of TPHg and BTEX to shallow
groundwater. :+
The Tank #4 vicinity is not considered a potential source of aromatics, because aromatics have.
not been detected in the water samples from wells in this vicinity (MW-3 and MW-5),and they
x were not consistently detected in soil samples collected in this vicinity following the soil
excavation. i
4.0 SCOPE OF WORK
f
The soil gas and soil investigation was conducted to 1) investigate whether the Tank #1 and #2
vicinity is a potential source area, and 2) evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of aromatics
and TPH in the vadose zone. Transglobal Environmental Geochemistry (TEG) was
subcontracted to collect the soil gas and soil samples using a direct-push hydraulic and
percussion drive-point sampling system (TEG's StrataprobeTM). Figures 2 and 3 show the 'R t
sampling point locations and reported chemical concentrations for soil-gas and soil samples,
f
respectively. Applied Science and Engineering, Inc. was subcontracted to collect groundwater
level measurements and groundwater samples for chemical analysis from the five monitor
wells (MW-1,-2,-3,-4 and -5) at the site during August 1996 and March 1997. Figures 4 and
ft 5 show the water-level contours and reported detections of petroleum hydrocarbons,
respectively, for the August 1996 monitoring event. Figure 6 shows the reported detections of
9 ; petroleum hydrocarbons for the March 1997 monitoring event.
`{ Soil Gas Investigation
a r'
The soil gas investigation consisted of collecting soil gas samples from 8 locations (Figure 2).
Two sampling locations (SV1 and SV2) were moved from their-proposed sampling Iocations
due to access restrictions. At each sampling location, soil-gas samples were attempted to be
4
l R4182DA-626966-4 4
ouiouice/soilgas1wpd
0 —
