FARR ASSOCIATES
collected at depths of 15, 30, and 45 feet bgs. The three sampling depths were selected to
provide data to assess the vertical distribution of petroleum hydrocarbons. '
1 -
li
A direct-push hydraulic and percussion drive-point sampling system was employed to collect
the soil gas samples. At the designated depth interval, the drive rods were slightly retracted to
p g
expose the slotted portion of the expendable drive-point. Tubing, which was lowered down
the drive train as it was being advanced,'was purged prior to collecting the gas sample. Soil
gas was withdrawn from the tubing using a small calibrated syringe connected to the tubing via
an on-off valve. In order to ensure that a representative sample was being collected, the first 5
volumes of gas pulled from the tubing were discarded. The next 20 cc of soil gas were
withdrawn in the syringe, plugged and immediately transferred to TEG's onsite mobile lab for
analysis for BTEX using EPA Method 8020, and for TPH using EPA Method 8015 modified.
Soil Gas Results
TPH was detected at concentrations of 49 ppmv north of Tank 3 (SV-7 at 13.5 feet bgs),
10,570 ppmv immediately adjacent to Tank 3 (SV-5 at 40 feet bgs) and 8,208 ppmv south of
Tank 3 (SV-6 at 44 feet bgs). Toluene (1.0 - 734.5 µg/L), Ethylbenzene (2.1 - 147.9 /,cg/L)
` and Xylenes (13.3 - 292.3 pg/L) were also reported at SV-5, SV-6 and SV-7 (see Figure 2 and
Table 1). A soil gas sample was not able to be collected at 5V-7 at 30 feet due to no flow
conditions. No compounds were detected adjacent to Tanks 1 and 2 (SV-1 and SV-2) or
between Tanks 1 and 2 and Tank 3 (except for toluene which was detected slightly above the
1 reporting limit at 1.1 µg1 L from SV-3 at 30 feet bgs). No compounds were detected at SV-8,
northwest of Tank 3.
t
Soil Sampling
E
At the request of PHSIEHD, selected soil samples were collected as confirmation of soil-gas
1 analytical results. A total of 8 soil samples were collected from 4 of the soil gas sample
locations (SV1, SVS, SV6 and SV7) at depths of 15, 30, and/or 45 feet bgs.
i
TI
S;
R41820A-625960-5 5
 unionicn/soilges3.wpd _
4
