- FARR ASSOCIATES
Upon completion of the soil gas survey, locations with the highest VOC vapor.concentrations
were selected for soil sampling. In addition, soil samples were collected downgradient of
Tanks 1 and 2 (SVB-1) to confirm the negative soil gas results. Soil samples were obtained at
discrete intervals using a standard 2 inch outer diameters lit barrel sampler.equipped
,. P p with a
hardened steel tipped piston assembly capable of holding 6-inch brass sample sleeves (1.5 inch
' diameter). At the designated depth, the piston was released and the probe string advanced to
collect the required interval. The string was then removed from the ground; and the sampler r
disassembled. The sleeves were removed, capped and labeled, and the sampler
decontaminated. All soil samples were sent to a state certified lab (American Environmental
r
Network, Pleasant Hill) and analyzed for BTEX using EPA Method 8020, and TPH-g using
EPA Method.8015 modified. Soil samples collected adjacent to Tank #3 were also analyzed
fill
for TPH-d and TPH-k- Six of the soil samples were also sent to Core Laboratories and tested
for physical properties and total organic carbon (TOC). This information may be used in
support of chemical fate and transport modeling, if necessary, to move the site toward closure.
f '
Upon completion of sampling, the drive train was used to backfill the hole with
cement bentonite grout while the drive train was being retracted from the hole. All equipment
was decontaminated prior to use at the site and between each sampling location.
Soil Sample Results -
Soil samples were collected adjacent to Tanks'l and 2 at SVB-1 in order to confirm the
negative results obtained during the soil gas survey. Samples were collected at 15 and.30 feet
bgs. The shallow sample was non-detect for BTEX and TPH; the deeper sample yielded non-
detect for BTE and TPH, and total Xylenes at 6 yg/kg. This result is just above the reporting
J P ng !
limit of 5 uglkg.
Fi
A soil gas sample was unable to be collected from SV-7 at 30 feet bgs due to no-flow
conditions. Therefore, a soil sam le was coIlecte P d and analyzed for BTEX and TPH. No
petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in the sample.
