;Sanzplirq Protocols
Drilling
Permits were obtained for the. borings and .Monitoring wells before the di-lling began.
The soil borings were accomplished usin,g.a mobile mounted drillingrig g em ploying the
use of a hollow stem flight auger ro less than 3-3%4 inch I.A. and 8-714 inch o.d.
All drilling equipment_was thoroughly steam cleaned before drilling began to prevent
the introduction' of contamination from off site, and between borings to preveIlt cross
contamination.
The borings were logged under the direct supervision of a registered geologist, using
the Unified Soil Classification System. The color, texture, moisture, plasticity (if
applicable), consistency of thz earth material-., blow counts, pertinent soil or bedrock
characteristics, and any evidence of contamination viere noted. All water-bearing zones
and the depths at which they were encounlered were noted on these logs.
M.l borings were drilled in such a manner as to prevent cross contamination between j
strata. Exploratory soil borings within tl.e unsaturated zone were backfilled with a. five
percent (5%) Bentonitc and cement grout with a Bentonite plug at the base.
The cuttings from the drilling operation were containerized on site during drilling for
proper disposition, The proper method of.disposal is dependent upon results of labora-
tory analysis; this disposal is the responsibility of the client unless other arrangements
 have been math:.
Well Construction
All materials used in well construction were thoroughly cleaned prior to introduction
into the boring. A Bentonite grout was placed at the bottom of the boring as necessary.
After the seal had-been allowed.to set long enough to support the weight of the casing,
a two inch (2") diameter well casing (PVC) with.end cap andfactory perforations for.
placement in the saturated zone (taking into account seasonal variation) was placed in
the boring. The screen and filter pack sizes-are as rioted in the well construction draw=
ing. The casing and end caps were breaded`; no.PVC cement was used. The filter pack
extends 4-112' above the perforated zone. A Bentonite seal two to six feet (6') thick
was placed in the annular space above the filter pack followedby a,cement grout to the
surface. Seal and filter pack elevations may vary based on the underlying geology.
r , .
F } rc
