WZi INC <br /> • 2 0 SOIL BORING PROCEDURES <br /> Soil borings are not planned for this investigation If deemed necessary, soil borings will <br /> be advanced ten feet below the base of hydrocarbon contamination or fifteen feet above <br /> groundwater In the event significant soil moisture is encountered, stop drilling and obtain <br /> permits from PHSEHD and/or any other required municipal government agency Samples <br /> will be obtained in the manner outlined in Section 3 1 below <br /> During the drilling program a soil log will be maintained for each boring according to the <br /> Unified Soil Classification System by a California Certified Engineering Geologist <br /> 3 0 SOIL SAMPLING PROTOCOL <br /> 31 Soil Sampling with Drill Rig <br /> • A two and one-half inch diameter split spoon sampler fitted with three six inch brass <br /> sample tubes will be used to collect samples In each borehole, samples will be collected <br /> at ten foot intervals After drilling to each sampling depth, the sampling apparatus will be <br /> inserted into the hollow auger and driven into the undisturbed soil beneath the borehole <br /> Upon recovery, the lower two sample tubes, designated A and B, will be sealed by <br /> covering with aluminum foil, capping with plastic and sealing with cloth tape This sample <br /> recovery method minimizes head space in the sample tubes The samples will then be <br /> stored on ice pending delivery to a certified laboratory for chemical analysis and <br /> accompanied by appropriate Chain of Custody documents The material in the third tube <br /> and in the sample "shoe" will be examined and described, then discarded Sample <br /> descriptions will include lithology, moisture content, staining, and odor Samples will also <br /> be checked with an Organic Vapor Meter(OVM) Lithologic logs for each borehole will be <br /> compiled utilizing the sample descriptions <br /> APPENDIX III <br /> 08220010 011 2 <br />
