analysis. If these conditions are met, the sample will be assigned a unique log number by the
laboratory for identification throughout analysis and reporting. The log number will be recorded on
the chain-of-custody form and in the legally required log book maintained at the laboratory. The
sample description, date received, client's name, and other relevant information will also be
recorded.
Quality control. In addition to collecting groundwater samples at the site, trip blanks and
field blanks will accompany the samples to the analytical laboratory. The trip blank will be
prepared, prior to going to the field, by the analytical laboratory. The trip blank will be stored, on
ice, in the sample cooler at all times. The purpose of the trip blank is to identify whether
transportation and/or storage practices have compromised the integrity of the samples. One trip
blank per site will be submitted to the laboratory for analysis.
Field blanks will be prepared in the field, by the Brown and Caldwell field technician. Field
blanks will be prepared by filling the appropriate samphng containers with deionized water,
following applicable and appropriate procedures and will be prepared immediately prior to
collecting the first water sample. The purpose of the field blank is to identify whether specific site
conditions are affecting the sample quality. One field blank will be prepared for every 10 samples
collected at the site. Field blanks will be labeled, stored, and transported, following the procedures
outlined above.
Because groundwater samples are collected using disposable and/or dedicated equipment,
equipment rinsate samples will not be collected.
s:\2092\pha lr\workplmdo
