PETE WILSON,Governor
STATE OF CALIFORNIA-Environmental Protection Agency
CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD a CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3443 Routler Road,Suite A
Sacramento,CA 95827-3098
FH N9 6)255-3015
9 January 1997
Ms. Julie Ranting
133 Peachtree Street,NE (30303)
P.O. Box 105605
` Atlanta, GA 30348-5605
t WORK PLAN FOR INSTALLATION OF ADDITIONAL MONITORING WELLS,
rGEORGIA-PACIFIC CORPORATION, TRACY, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
I have reviewed the 4 December 1996 Work Plan for Installation of Additional Ground Water Monitoring
Wells submitted for the former Georgia-Pacific site in Tracy. The work plan is approved under the
following conditions.
Figure 1,Proposed Well Locations
The new wells should be numbered starting with BC-18 rather than BC-15 as shown in Figure I since
there are existing wells numbered BC-15,BC-16,and BC-17.
Sampling
The first ground water samples to be analyzed should be collected at least 48 hours after well development
since contaminants associated with well construction may be present immediately after well development
and the data will be used to evaluate the need for additional investigation and remediation.
It appears from the description of sampling procedures that only soil samples from the capillary fringe will
be submitted for laboratory analyses. If field screening indicates the presence of volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) in soil above the capillary fringe, then such soil samples should be submitted for
laboratory analyses.
In addition to submitting a travel blank and field blank for laboratory analyses, one duplicate ground water
sample for every 10 samples collected should be collected and submitted for laboratory analyses.
Well Construction
The offsite monitoring well should be constructed of four-inch rather than two-inch casing for extraction
purposes, if necessary.
Based on the schedule in the work plan, please submit an investigation report, including recommendations
for future actions, by 26 April 1997. If you have any questions, you may call me at(916) 255-3048.
w' l* L' Ujl'/
-;y- POLLY LOWRY
Associate Engineering Geologist
PAL:pal/lsb
cc: San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Stockton
Mr. Todd Miller, Brown and Caldwell, Pleasant Hill
