' • tnnedy/Jenks Consultants
' Section 6: Reclamation Management
In accordance with the Conceptual Compliance Plan, Musco will treat process wastewater at its
Facility, convey the reclaimed water via a piping system to offsite locations, and use the water
as agricultural irrigation water. Musco plans to lease the Jepsen Webb Ranch property and
' manage this property using normal agricultural irrigation practices for crop growth and
maintenance. The Valley View Thoroughbred Farm will purchase the reclaimed water for
irrigation of pasture land to promote forage cover. These practices should promote soil
' sustainability.
6.1 Cropping and Irrigation Management
' At the Jepsen Webb Ranch (130 acres), reclaimed water will be used to grow continuous cover
crops over approximately 80% of the total acreage. A management plan being developed for the
property involves dividing the total acreage into five crop parcels of approximately 25 acres
each. Four of the five parcels will be continuously cropped with one of the five parcels being left
fallow during each growing season. The remaining acreage will be left fallow as a buffer zone
' surrounding the five parcels. Due to the salinity issues concerning all agricultural activities in
California, salt tolerant crops will be considered for planting in rotation with other crops. The
.high quality of the reclaimed water should allow a variety of economically valuable perennial and
t row crops to be planted.
For the Valley View Thoroughbred Farm, reclaimed water will be used to maintain existing
pasture grass for horse grazing throughout the year.
' The two potential reclamation properties will use differing amounts of water according to the
acreage and uses at each property. The water balance scenario included in the 30 July 2004
' ROWD presents monthly irrigation amounts and the resulting estimated storage reservoir
volume and soil water content for the onsite and offsite properties under irrigation. According to
the water balance information presented in the 30 July 2004 ROWD, in an average year, all the
available reclaimed water will be conveyed to the offsite properties for reuse. Table 6 includes
an estimated approximate distribution between the properties over the course of an average
year.
Sufficient irrigation water and precipitation are available in an average year to grow crops during
the fall and winter/spring period. A row crop could be planted at the Jepsen Webb Ranch in
October and harvested in early summer(June or July). Irrigation can be adjusted in the late
winter/early spring to result in leaching periodically to prevent salinity buildup for soil
management purposes. The storage capacity of Musco's onsite reservoir for reclaimed water is
likely sufficient to accommodate crop grown throughout the year if acreage is reduced or
rotated.
At the Jepsen Webb Ranch property, the existing row and furrow irrigation system will be
' evaluated for use to distribute irrigation water. The existing system may require modification to
the tailwater handling portion. Standing water will be minimized to the extent possible and
tailwater that is generated will be collected and routed back to the distribution header piping for
Reclamation Report, Page 16
' Musco Family Olive Company
ffsPoW' 4ob109020104.nnscodire105+epoelstraiamaW.TM oreclan6 repon W4 E.1204,a
