Page 4
L Soil Sampling and Analysis
A technician from Gribi & Associates and as directed by the County Inspector collected
L
thirteen soil samples from the project site. Three soil samples were collected from the .
bottom of the tank pit, at an estimated depth of 14', a sample at each end of the tank on
the south and north end and at the middle of the tank. Tank pit samples were logged as
TS-1(14'), TM-1(14') and TN-1(14'). There was one discreet soil sample, labeled
PL-1(3 1/2') collected from beneath product line at an estimated depth of 3'6", two
discreet soil samples, D-1(2 112') and D-2(5.0');these samples were taken from beneath
L the diesel fuel pump at a depth of 2'6" and at 5'. There were seven discreet stock pile
samples, logged as SP-A-1, SP-A-2, SP-A-3, SP-A-4, SP-13-1, SP-C-1 and SP-D-1 taken
from excavation soil piles. Due to Cal-OSHA safety regulations and the instability of the I
pit walls, the excavation soil samples were obtained with'a backhoe (location of samples
collected is given in Appendix Q.
L
These soil samples were collected on January 19, 1999, in the following manner. Each
soil sample was obtained by inserting a brass, two-inch diameter by six-inch long brass
sleeve into the soils. A soil slide hammer was used to insert the sleeves into the soil, each
end was wrapped with teflon, sealed with plastic end caps and wrapped with tape.
The samples were.labeled, logged on a Chain of Custody form and transported on blue ice
to Acculabs Inc., (State of California,.environmental laboratory, certification number
2330), to perform the required analysis, (Chain of Custody form is presented in Appendix.
L 1
C). I
Soil Analytical Results
L
Soil samples from the diesel tank excavation, and sock piles, were analyzed for Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel and for Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene,Xylene '
L (BTEX)by EPA methods 8020 and 8015M and for Methyl-t-butyl ether(MTBE)by EPA
method 80201602.
Excavation Soil Sample Results
L The analytical results for tank pit sample,TN-1(14'),taken from the north end of pit
bottom at an estimated depth of 14' detected non-detect as TPH-D (Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as Diesel), detected Non-Detect as Benzene, detected Non-Detect as
Toluene, detected Non-Detect as Ethylbenzene, detected Non-Detect as Xylenes.
L
