' 21 November 2001
AGE-NC Project No 95-0143
' 2 2 COLLECTION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Water samples were collected from each purged well using new, disposable bailers and, upon
retrieval,were transferred into 40-m1 EPA-approved VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18%hydrochloric
acid as a sample preservative The samples were labeled and transported under cham-of-custody, in
a chilled container, to McCampbell Analytical, Inc (MAI), a DHS-certified laboratory, and were
analyzed for
' • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Methods 5030/8015m,
• Volatile aromatic hydrocarbons - benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX)
' and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8020/602
• Fuel oxygenates - di-isopropyl ether (DIPS), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), MTBE,
' tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), ethanol and methanol in
accordance with EPA Method 8260M
I•
3.0. FVgDWGS
' Ground water elevation was calculated and flow direction was inferred from field data, the
hydrocarbon impact to ground water and soil was quantified from laboratory analysis and field
' observations
3 1 GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND GRADIENT
The elevation of ground water in the twelve wells was calculated by subtracting the depth to water
' from the surveyed casing elevation (Table 1) Ground water elevations decreased in the monitored
wells an average 0 74 feet between the May 2001 and August 2001 monitoring events Ground water
was within the screened intervals of MW-16, MW-17, MW-22, MW-23 and MW-24 and mferred
' to be within the screened interval of each vapor well Ground water ranged from 0 21 feet to 6 82
feet above the screened interval in the other seven monitoring wells The approximate flow direction
was toward the north-northeast with a gradient of 0 001 feet/feet at the subject property Ground
water elevation contours for the August 2001 monitoring event are illustrated m Figure 3
3 2 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF WATER SAMPLES
• During the August 2001 monitoring event, TPH-g was detected in samples collected from
I
Advanced GeoEnvironmental Inc
