8 August 2000 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0143 <br /> Page 4of8 <br /> 2 4 SVE/TAS UNITS OPERATION AND MONITORING <br /> Operation of the SVE and IAS units was initiated on 03 November 1999 The sparging system <br /> operates on a one-hour on/one-hour off cycle The air flow rate to each spargmg well was maintained <br /> at approximately 20 cubic feet per hour (cfh) during operation The flow rate, burner temperature, <br /> exhaust temperature and LEL were continually recorded on a chart recorder Between 14 May and <br /> 02 June 2000 operating parameters of the SVE unit were not recorded, after removal of the folding <br /> chart on 14 May 2000 a replacement chart inadvertently was not installed until 02 June 2000 <br /> Review of data collected after installation of replacement chart indicates that operating conditions <br /> were consistent with those recorded through 14 May 2000 <br /> The SVE system was operated as a catalytic system with the operational temperature maintained <br /> above 600°F The extraction system had operated continually until June 2000 On 17 June 2000 a <br /> utility failure resulted in a system shut down, the system was non-operational through the end of the <br /> second quarter of 2000 <br /> Field measurement of flow, vacuum potential and organic vapor concentration iii the air stream from <br /> each extraction well were measured on a periodic basis (Table 7) Soil vapor samples were collected <br />• from the input and the discharge of the SVE unit on 06 April 2000, 12 April 2000, 24 May 2000 and <br /> 07 June 2000 All samples were collected into Tedlar bags and transported in a chilled container <br /> under chain-of-custody to DHS-certified laboratories The samples were transported to MAI and <br /> were analyzed for TPH-g, BTEX and MTBE in accordance with EPA Methods 8015m/5030 and <br /> 8020/602 by MAI <br /> The depth to ground water and dissolved oxygen concentrations in ground water were measured on <br /> 6 April, 23 May and 22 June 2000, in addition to the measurements taken during the quarterly <br /> monitoring event of 10 to 12 May 2000 Ground water elevation data are summarized on Table 3 <br /> Dissolved oxygen data are sunii mnzed on Table 7 <br /> 2 S HYDROCARBON MASS CALCULATIONS <br /> The chart recorder printout for the SVE unit was examined to estimate the operational time and flow <br /> rate of the SVE unit The volume of extracted soil vapor removed was then calculated Analytical <br /> results for the four soil vapor samples collected from the SVE intake were plotted on a graph and <br /> a trend line was drawn (Appendix F) The volume of soil vapor removed and the average <br /> hydrocarbon concentrations were divided into two data sets, based on the time of collection of the <br /> four soil vapor samples The mass of hydrocarbons removed from the site was then calculated <br /> A summary of the SVE system hydrocarbon concentration graph and the mass calculations are <br /> Advanced GeoEnviro=enta3,Inc <br />
