t
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report documents the subsurface soil assessment activities performed at
the property located just west of the Schulte and Chrisman Roads intersection
in Tracy, California (Figure 1). A house is located at 7750 Schulte Road on the
northeast portion of the property. The purpose of the subsurface assessment
was to identify potential subsurface soil contamination beneath (1) a former
underground storage tank (UST) and (2) a former Chevron Oil pipeline as
detailed in Phase One, Inc's. assessment report dated April 1995. This
assessment was conducted at the request of Fremont Land, Inc. who is a
potential buyer/developer of the property.
2.0 SITE HISTORY
The subject' property is approximately 60 acres of agricultural land with a
small house on the northwest portion of the property (Figure 2). In Phase One,
Inc.'s Phase I environmental assessment, it was determined that the subject
property (1) formerly contained a UST for the storage of motor fuel, and (2) is
adjacent to a former Chevron Oil pipeline which was located just south of the
Schulte Road right of way; on the north portion of the subject property. Each
issue is discussed in greater detail below.
2.1 Former Motor Fuel UST
Based on an interview with the current property owner, Mrs. Maxine Hanson, a
UST formerly containing either gasoline or diesel fuel was located adjacent to
the house on the subject property. Mrs Hanson explained that the UST had
been removed by others in 1991, yet no soil samples were collected to verify
the presence or absence of petroleum hydrocarbons. ASE recommended
collecting and analyzing a soil sample from the native material beneath the
former UST.
2.2 Former Chevron Pipeline
_. Based on an interview with the current property owner, Mrs. Maxine Hanson, a
Chevron Pipeline was buried underground adjacent to the northern property
line of the subject site. Both ASE and Phase One, Inc. conducted interviews
with Mr. Larry Whitehead of Chevron regarding the pipeline. Mr. Whitehead
informed ASE that in the early 1900's, a steel pipeline or pipelines were
installed by Chevron near the northern property line of the subject site. Mr.
Whitehead explained that the pipeline(s) previously carried crude and bunker
"C" oil from Chevron's Bakersfield oil fields to Chevron's Richmond refinery. He
also stated that the pipeline(s) were abandoned in the 1940s and may or may
not have been removed.
Schulte and Chrisman Road, Tracy CA - May 1995 (ASE k2S57)
- 1 -
._J
