(Geomatrix) has prepared this report summarizing the results of
additional soil and groundwater investigations performed on behalf of Chevron Pipe Line
Company (CPL) at the Hanson Property(San Joaquin County Assessor Parcel Number [APN]
252-040-02) at 7750 West Schulte Road in Tracy, California(Figure 1). These additional soil
and groundwater assessments were requested verbally of CPL by the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division(PHS-EHD) on 3 March 1997 and were
conducted in accordance with a 12 March 1997 letter/work plan from CPL to PHS-EHD.
These investigations were conducted to evaluate the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the
subsurface adjacent to CPL'S former Wait-Mendota-Richmond Pipeline ("Old Valley Lines"),
located adjacent to the north Hanson Property boundary. Field activities conducted by
Geomatrix included advancing and sampling three soil borings; obtaining a grab groundwater
monitoring sample; and installing, developing, and sampling one temporary groundwater
monitoring well. Presented herein is a brief summary of previous investigations, results of data
obtained during the subject investigations, and conclusions and recommendations regarding site
closure.
2.0 BACKGROUND
A segment of CPL's former Wait-Mendota-Richmond Pipeline ("Old Valley Pipeline") system
was located in the right-of-way along the northern boundary of the Hanson Property(Figure 2).
According to CPL records, this section of the pipeline system was used to carry San Joaquin
Valley crude oil and Bunker C oil from the early 1900s to the late 1950s. The pipeline has
since been removed from the right-of-way adjacent to the Hanson Property.
I:\WPDOCS\4097\ADDLR4VB.DOC 1
