At least two consecutive five foot
non-detect soil samples are required to verify and confirm all vertical delineation conclusions.
A groundwater sample is to be collected from the shallow aquifer beneath the former farm
underground storage tank to verify that the groundwater has not been impacted. The
groundwater sample is to be analyzed for the five oxygenates by EPA Method 8260 as noted in
the enclosed policy, as well as the other methods listed in the workplan. Additionally, a PHS-EHD
field selected soil sample and the groundwater sample are to be analyzed for Methanol and
Ethanol by EPA Method 8015m direct injection.
Grouting of the bore holes into groundwater can be accomplished by either tremie pumping
cement grout from the bottom up or by adding NSF approved bentonite chips or pellets to the
groundwater in the hole. Cement grout can then be poured from the surface to 20' maximum
depth in a"dry" hole. If the depth to the fully hydrated bentonite is greater than 20', the grout is to
be pumped in through a tremie pipe from the bottom up. In undeveloped areas, the surface to 3
feet below grade may be backfilled with native material.
With the above noted items included in the proposed scope of work, the plan is approved and the
permit can be issued upon your verification of the additional requirements. Please contact
Michael Infurna, Senior REHS, at(209)468-3454 to verify the workplan modifications and to
schedule the field work.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Envir me al He It ivi ion
Michael J.
