F+
 KLEINFELDER
File No.: 20-3121-02
November 2, 1988
Page 3
SITE CONDITIONS
- At the time of our field explorations, the site contained a house and barn on an
approximate 4- to 5-foot high fill pad off Northland Road. The fill pad covers the
approximate north 1/3 to 1/2 of the proposed building location. The remainder of the
site consists of a relatively flat almond orchard approximately 4 to 5 feet below
Northland Road and the fill pad. The locations of any underground utilities at the site
are not known to our firm at this time.
FIELD EXPLORATIONS
The field explorations for this investigation were performed on October 13, 1988, and
consisted of drilling eleven test borings to depths of approximately 5 to 15-1/2 feet
below existing ground surface. The test borings were drilled with a truck-mounted
drill rig using 6-inch diameter continuous-flight auger. Continuous logs of the soils
encountered in the test borings were maintained by a field engineer from our firm who
assisted in obtaining relatively undisturbed soil samples for visual examination,
,.: classification and laboratory testing. Soil samples were obtained by driving a 2-inch
inside diameter sampler into the soil using a 140-pound hammer falling approximately
30 inches. The number of blows required to advance the sampler are presented on the
Logs of Borings, Plates III through IX, at the corresponding sample locations.
SOIL CONDITIONS
The soil conditions encountered at the locations explored generally consist of light
-' brown silty sands that grade relatively clean with depth. Exceptions were more silty
soils encountered below 12 feet in Boring 1 and a thin sandy silt layer encountered at
.S 3 feet in Boring 6. The fill soils placed for the existing building pad are generally
1
r
f
