HHM Program Roles and Responsibilities SAF 09-65 Handling Hazardous Materials <br /> HHM Program Roles and Responsibilities <br /> Overview Each and every associate has a responsibility to ensure compliance with the <br /> HHM Program.However,there are special requirements and specific job duties <br /> for certain associates, as described in this section. <br /> The salaried management team is, at all times, ultimately responsible for <br /> ensuring safety and compliance with environmental laws in their location. In <br /> addition,as part of their management role,the salaried management team <br /> receives the same training as designated HHM associates and should be capable <br /> of performing HHM duties should the need arise. <br /> This responsibility must be satisfied at all times. Inappropriate handling of <br /> hazardous materials and waste are a major work rule violation. <br /> All store associates All associates are responsible for recognizing a potential cleanup situation <br /> caused by a spill of hazardous material and reporting it to a designated HHM <br /> associate.Associates must: <br /> ■ Recognize a potential spill of hazardous material <br /> ■ Isolate the area of the spill,if safe to do so,to avoid contact of other associates <br /> and/or customers with the spilled material <br /> ■ Immediately report the spill to a designated HHM associate <br /> All associates are authorized to perform the above steps related to a spill in <br /> order to protect the customers,associates,environment,and property from any <br /> hazards involving chemicals. <br /> Under no circumstances is a non-designated associate authorized to contact 3E <br /> for spill cleanup instructions or clean up a spill if a designated HHM associate is <br /> not present.However, any associate may use My Apron or call 3E to request an <br /> MSDS(Material Safety Data Sheet). <br /> Environmental To ensure that we have the resources and expertise to support the organization, <br /> consultants we contract with several environmental consultants. At this time,3E provides <br /> support and assistance to our stores in handling hazardous materials and waste. <br /> Among other things,3E is responsible for the following: <br /> ■ Providing the designated HHM associates with instruction on whether a <br /> waste is a hazardous waste and if so,what kind of hazardous waste <br /> ■ Providing the designated HHM associates with instruction on cleaning up <br /> spills <br /> ■ Preparing properly completed labels to send to designated HHM associates <br /> for hazardous waste buckets <br /> ■ Maintaining an online database of available MSDS for every product sold in <br /> stores and providing all store associates with MSDS upon request(in the <br /> event an MSDS is not available,3E will obtain one) <br /> ■ Maintaining an online database of all hazardous waste manifests that is <br /> accessible 24 hours per day,7 days a week <br /> ■ Contacting local authorities in the event of an emergency situation requiring <br /> emergency response support. <br /> Revised: 12 January 2007 7 <br />
