Garden Department (D-28) SAF 09-65 Handling Hazardous Materials <br /> Step Action <br /> 1 An associate in the Garden Department must walk the fertilizer aisle <br /> each day.All fertilizer aisles must be swept by no later than 10:00 a.m.in <br /> all stores daily. <br /> 2 During the walk,remove any regular trash items (such as, pallet <br /> splinters,paper,soda cans) that have not come in contact with fertilizer. <br /> Once collected,these items may be placed in the municipal (general) <br /> trash for disposal. <br /> 3 Next,the associate must: <br /> • Repair any damaged bags with bag patches or overpack the torn bags <br /> that cannot be patched for discounted sale(see procedures for <br /> "Handling Torn or Ripped Bags of Fertilizer" below). <br /> • Sweep the entire fertilizer aisle(being careful to collect any spilled <br /> fertilizer from the torn bags).Consolidate the floor sweepings into a <br /> pile. (See step 5 on page 19 for how to handle the floor sweepings.) <br /> NOTE: Before sweeping the floor, the associate must put on a pair of <br /> single-use gloves and safety glasses. <br /> An example of how a properly maintained fertilizer aisle should look is <br /> provided below. <br /> Revised: 12 January 2007 17 <br />
