• <br /> Procedures for Spills or Unknown Materials SAF 09-65 Handling Hazardous Materials <br /> Step Action <br /> 4 Either handle or instruct the associate to: <br /> • Put on appropriate PPE <br /> • Clean up spill (using a broom, absorbent,and dust pan) <br /> • Place absorbent and spilled materials in a LINED BUCKET <br /> • Twist the liner closed and, whenever possible, tie a knot to close it <br /> • Remove PPE and put in the bucket on top of the liner <br /> • Restock the Spill Kit <br /> 5 Then the designated HHM associate must: <br /> • Close the container <br /> • Clear the spill area as safe for employees and customers to return <br /> • Retrieve the faxed label and check that all information is complete <br /> with 3E Reference number <br /> • Place the faxed label in pouch on bucket <br /> • Place the bucket in the proper area of central storage area following <br /> 3E's instruction <br /> • Log the bucket into the Hazardous Waste Inventory Log <br /> Spill Kit/equipment To complete the spill procedures,associates and designated HHM associates <br /> locations will need Spill Kits that provide the tools to clean up the spill.Spill kits are <br /> located at the central storage area,TRC, Paint Department,Front End and the <br /> Garden Department.There also must be a fully charged fire extinguisher in each <br /> of these locations in case of emergency. Following the use of the spill kit,an <br /> associate must restock the kit immediately. <br /> Assembling a Spill Assemble spill kit items from eBuy and store stock merchandise. Restock the kit <br /> Kit as needed.The following items need to be on site: <br /> Item Quantity/Size <br /> Spill Kit Container 33 gallon <br /> Single-use Nitrile Gloves 1 box <br /> Safety Glasses 1 pair <br /> Absorbent One 10-1b. bag of Absorbent <br /> Trash Bags 1 package <br /> Overshoe or Disposable Shoe Covers 1 pair <br /> Mild Cleaner 1 unit(such as,Simple Green) <br /> Broom 1 <br /> Dust Pan 1 <br /> Shovel 1 <br /> Permanent Marker 1 <br /> All spill kits must have a list of contents taped to the inside of the container lid <br /> using a Spill Kit Content sheet located in the Forms section of the HHM Records <br /> Manual. <br /> Revised: 12 January 2007 45 <br />
