Procedure for Waste Shipping and Hazardous Waste Manifests SAF 09-65 Handling Hazardous <br /> Procedure for Waste Shipping and Hazardous Waste Manifests <br /> Overview The Store Manager or MOD is responsible for overseeing the shipping of <br /> hazardous waste.This includes supervising the consolidation of hazardous <br /> waste by the transporters,validating and signing hazardous waste manifests, <br /> and retaining written documents. <br /> Hazardous waste As selected and scheduled by the SSC, the hazardous waste transporter will <br /> pick-ups and periodically arrive to pick up the waste that has been accumulated on site. If a <br /> manifests pickup is needed more often,a designated HHM associate should call their <br /> DAPM for out-of-cycle waste pickup approval. Once approved by the DAPM, <br /> the designated HHM associate should call 3E to schedule the pickup. <br /> The contracted transporter will prepare shipping papers (hazardous waste <br /> manifests, land disposal restriction forms,and packing slips) prior to coming to <br /> the store for a hazardous waste pickup.Shipping papers are required to: <br /> ■ Accompany all shipments of waste. <br /> ■ Match with the Hazardous Waste labels on drums. <br /> ■ Accurately reflect the amount,type and characteristics of the wastes for each <br /> shipment. <br /> Below is a summary chart of the paperwork and pickup process for the RTV <br /> Associate or MOD to follow for every waste pickup. <br /> RTV Associate or MOD <br /> Prior to the transporter arriving for a waste pickup: <br /> • Verify that all waste has been moved from satellite areas (Paint,Plumbing, <br /> Garden Department,TRC)to the central storage area and put in the correct <br /> bucket following 3E's instruction. <br /> • Verify that all containers are on the Hazardous Waste Inventory Log. <br /> Store Manager,or in Store Manager's absence,the MOD <br /> Meet with the transporter to <br /> • Verify that all containers are on the Hazardous Waste Inventory Log. <br /> • Verify that the manifest is accurate for the shipment(See "Hazardous waste <br /> manifest and shipping paper verification" on page 57). <br /> IMPORTANT: In a case of a discrepancy,contact the SSC. Do not allow waste <br /> to be transported if there is a discrepancy. <br /> • Sign the manifest on the generator's certification line and any other affiliated <br /> papers such as land disposal restriction forms and retain the appropriate <br /> copies. <br /> • Verify that the driver has appropriate placards,and,if not,offer placards. <br /> 56 Revised: 12 January 2007 <br />
