Main St.
Stockton, CA 95202
RE: Hazardous Waste Program Inspection Report
Home Depot Store#1006
250 Commerce Ave.
Manteca, CA 95336
Dear Ms. Henry:
This letter is being provided on behalf of The Home Depot U.S.A., Inc.'s Manteca Store#1006 ("The Home
Depot") and in response to the Hazardous Waste Program Inspection Report issued on July 25, 2011. The
Home Depot has reviewed the report and provides the following information in response to the alleged
violations:
20. Failed to completely label containers or tanks of hazardous waste.
RESPONSE: The inspection report indicated two general labeling issues:
• Hazardous Property: The Home Depot's Handling Hazardous Materials and Waste (HHM)
Automation (HHMA) system has been designed to include the hazardous property on labels for
hazardous wastes and State-regulated wastes. Based on the findings of this inspection, the
hazardous property has been inadvertently omitted from the waste labels for some State-
regulated wastes observed. Store#1006 has been instructed to include the hazardous
property, as applicable, on current and future waste labels until the time the issue has been
corrected by The Home Depot's Information Technology Group.
A copy of a label where the hazardous property has been manually added is enclosed as an
example of the actions taken to correct this issue.
• Missing Label: The Home Depot's HHM Program requires all waste containers to be labeled.
This aspect of the HHM Program has been reviewed with affected store associates to ensure
proper labeling going forward. Copies of the labels added to the black bucket of paint rags and
red bucket of fertilizer sweepings as well as photographs of the labeling on each container are
enclosed for your review.
24. Failed to manage incompatible waste in containers properly.
RESPONSE: During the development of the HHM Program, The Home Depot reviewed the
components of its non-leaking aerosol can waste stream and determined it to be compatible.
