(CCR 66262.11)
Brake rotor metal shavings and spill absorbent were identified.
Pep Boys policy and procedure for brake rotor metal shavings waste at California stores: Metal
fillings produced from grinding of the brake rotors is captured and collected in a 5-gallon
container. The container is labeled "Brake Lathe Grindings". The container(s) are picked up on
a monthly basis by a certified hauler as scrap metal. Provided the scrap metal is recycled, it is
not regulated as hazardous waste per California Code of Regulations, Title 22. If the container
reaches 75% capacity, the store calls the Pep Boys Waste Hotline at 800.334.3794 to schedule a
pick up.
In addition, lab analysis was performed on samples taken during the July 17, 2013 inspection,
and the results sent to Pep Boys for review. The analytical confirms the material is non-
hazardous. The Soluble Threshold Limit Concentrations (STLC) Regulatory Level for Chromium
is 5.0 mg/L, above the detected 2.96 mg/L.
Pep boys policy and procedure for spent absorbent: After isolating a spill, the spent absorbent
is collected in an over pack drum provided with the store spill kit, or placed in another leak
3111 West Allegheny Avenue ( Philadelphia, PA 19132
215.430.9530(phone) (215.430.4639(fax)
